Technical help and common questions for All Fours in Ashes.
Frequently asked questions
- What is All Fours in Ashes?
- A single-player card roguelike based on two-player Pitch/Setback. You play an 1850s medium facing the New England dead one hand at a time. Win a hand to lay a spirit to rest; a set-back costs Wick from your candle.
- What platforms is it on?
- Steam, with native builds for Windows, macOS, and Linux. There is no mobile version.
- Do I need to be online to play?
- No. Gameplay works offline. Steam Cloud, achievements, and leaderboards require Steam's online services, but a connection is not required to play.
- Does the game collect my data?
- Joey Beans Games does not operate analytics, advertising, or a player-data server. Steam may process Cloud saves, achievements, leaderboard scores, gameplay traces used to verify those scores, and Steam profile information used to display rankings. See the privacy policy.
- Does it support controllers?
- Yes. Every screen is playable with a gamepad, including menus and settings, with on-screen button prompts and in-game rebinding.
- Does my progress sync between computers?
- When Steam Cloud is enabled for the game and your Steam account, the main progress save can synchronize between computers. The in-progress descent snapshot remains local to each computer.
- I have never played All Fours. Can I learn it in the game?
- Yes. There is a How to Play guide and a hands-on practice hand built in. They walk you through trump, tricks, and the four points (High, Low, Jack, and Game) step by step before you face the real dead.
- The game is hard. Any tips?
- Bid what your hand can make. Made bids of 3 or higher restore Wick, charms can counter specific curses, and spirits already laid to rest stay that way even if you lose the descent.
- How do I reset my progress?
- There is not currently an in-game reset command. Because Steam Cloud may restore a deleted save, email me with your operating system and I will provide the current save location and reset steps.
- Are there in-app purchases or ads?
- None of either. It is a one-time purchase, and that is the whole game.
- Is it scary? Any content warnings?
- It is folk horror: the restless dead, a guttering candle, a bleak burying ground, and an emotional late-game story of grief, a parent, and a child. There is no gore or graphic violence.
- How do I report a bug or request a feature?
- Email joey@joeybeansgames.com with what happened, your operating system and the game version, and a screenshot or your save file if you can. It helps a lot.
